1984 is the 1956 film adaptation of the George Orwell novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. The film was previously adapted for television in 1954. Donald Pleasence also appeared in that film. The movie was adapted for the screen in the 1984 film Nineteen Eighty-Four. A fourth adaptation is planned for 2009.

The film sought to capture George Orwell's novel in which a man tries to rebel against a totalitarian future government by falling in love in a world where the emotion has been outlawed. As punishment he is brainwashed and tortured.
