The 1940s contain the following years:
Years
Each year is listed along with one or two major genre-related events that happened that are unique to that year:
Overview
World events were dominated by World War II, which had begun in the late 1930s, but saw US involvement in 1941 and continuing until the mid 1940s. Following the war, the world saw a difficult political realignment and aftermath period. Technology, driven in part by Cold War competition, saw the groundwork laid for future lifestyles, such as the transistor, computers and early adopters buying television sets.
Movies were the dominant mass medium. Magazines were popular. Paperbacks, introduced in the US in 1939, bring cheap novels (and notably, Sci Fi anthologies) to the masses.
