The 1930s were a volatile decade that saw a lot of innovations in Sci Fi and changes in the world.
Overview
Following the wild social experimentation of the post Great War (World War I) 1920s, the general shift was towards more conservatism and even totalitarianism. Entertainment saw massive leaps forward: radio became the first real mass medium, comic books were popular, and costumed super-heroes entered the public consciousness. Science and technology, spurred in part by World War II (which would begin at the end of the decade, although America would not join it until 1941), saw great advances. Many movie fans consider 1939 to be the greatest movie year to date. Science fiction fandom also took shape in the 1930s.
